Pathfinders Neuromuscular Alliance: Intimacy & Relationships

Pathfinders Neuromuscular Alliance is such a valuable resource for our community. Based in the UK, the organization focuses on supporting adolescents and adults with neuromuscular diseases, such as Duchenne.

Pathfinders Neuromuscular Alliance recently released a series of webinars to train personal care attendants of individuals with neuromuscular diseases. It’s a great series and so needed in our community!

There’s one webinar in the series specifically that we’d like to share. The webinar is about intimacy and relationships for the individual with a neuromuscular disease. It’s an incredibly important part of adult life with Duchenne and unfortunately, it just doesn’t get enough attention.

From doctors who rarely discuss it, to a culture that struggles with even accepting individuals with disabilities as sexual beings, there are very few resources available for our community. Hopefully, sharing this information will help to change that.

Please be advised that sensitive subject matters are discussed in this webinar, including how personal care attendants can provide support for intimate relationships, overcoming morning awkwardness with an assistant, good communication, sexual desires and sexual attraction.

Thank you, Pathfinders Neuromuscular Alliance, for taking the initiative on this important subject matter!
