Friends

Connection, belonging, feeling valued… these are all basic things humans need. But for many individuals in our Duchenne community, these needs feel unattainable.

More often than not, inaccessible public locations, bias and stigma prevent our loved ones with Duchenne from engaging with the outside world. Unfortunately, the stressors of socializing with Duchenne go far beyond the physical. Starting at a young age, there is a high prevalence of anxiety, depression, exclusion, and isolation in our community.

Even though the private sector often excludes them, connection, belonging and community are still possible. It begins with family and friends taking the time to build relationships and to be there.
