For decades DMD has been considered “a boy’s” disease, with the female’s presentation of symptoms hardly recognized.

It’s a story that repeats itself far too often within our Duchenne community. First, a woman has to find a provider who actually believes that her symptoms can be related to Duchenne. After that, getting knowledgeable care itself can prove even harder than finding adequate care for her son with DMD.

True, we don’t know much about the way DMD affects women at this time, but we do know some. It’s enough for us to wonder what is hiding below the tip of that iceberg…
