One of the silver linings in this Duchenne journey is our community. In our world-wide Duchenne family, there are always amazing people and organizations ready to help. One of those amazing organizations is Team Joseph.
Team Joseph was founded by Marissa Penrod in honor of her son Joseph, who has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Her intention was to help all families with a child with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, specifically in the areas of funding groundbreaking research and financially helping families directly.
And they have done just that.
Team Joseph has partnered with Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy to fund a project exploring therapies to address DMD dilated heart failure. They have also funded two additional projects with promising initial results.
In conjunction with Little Hercules Foundation, Team Joseph has created the Duchenne Family Assistance Program. This program helps with many of the expenses and headaches of Duchenne: from medical equipment, to home modifications, travel assistance, accessible vehicles, government programs, insurance appeals, denials, and questions.
Team Joseph’s most recent venture is their podcast, Making Our Way. Nobody can describe the purpose better than Team Joseph themselves:
Making Our Way is a place for conversations about some of the toughest and best moments in life. The inspiration is Duchenne muscular dystrophy, but this is a show about people – and their stories.
The messy, the magical, the motivating, the community-building, and the heart-tugging. This is about how we make our way through the difficult, the unimaginable, and the regular everyday heartache. We share stories about carving our path forward, having a hand in creating what comes next.
This is really just a podcast about life…and how we lean into it as we make our way.
Thank you so much, Team Joseph and Marissa Penrod, for all the silver linings you bring to our Duchenne community!
